Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
In these verses Paul gives a brief summary of the Good News. God loves us, chose us, and sent Christ to die for us. We can have eternal life through faith in Him, because He broke the power of death with His resurrection. We do not deserve to be saved, but God offers us salvation anyway. What we must do is believe in Him, accept His offer. (NLT)
2 Timothy 1:8-10 – So you must never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for Christ. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the proclamation of the Good News.
It is God who saved us and chose us to live a holy life. He did this not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan long before the world began—to show his love and kindness to us through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the coming of Christ Jesus, our Savior, who broke the power of death and showed us the way to everlasting life through the Good News.
Quoted verse: [The women] left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. –Matthew 28:8 (NRSV)
“Story” – Here is a portion of Fay Torr’s (South Australia, Australia) story for Easter Sunday:
“. . . Easter Day is celebrated by family, friends, and visitors gathering together in praise and adoration of the risen Christ. As our joyful voices ring out in praise, Jesus’ words of forgiveness from the cross remind us that we, too, are forgiven. ‘Wow!’ We can celebrate Easter Day with heartfelt thanks to our risen Lord and Savior and share his love and peace with others.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I will offer thanks today for God’s saving grace through Christ.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for giving your life, so that we can have eternal life in and through you. Amen.
Prayer Focus: THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW CHRIST
