Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

God pays attention to those who call on Him. Whether God offers escape from trouble or help in times of trouble, we can be certain that He always hears and acts on behalf of those who love Him.

God promises great blessings to his people, but many of these blessings require our active participation. He will set us free from our fears, guard and rescue us, show us goodness, supply our needs, listen when we call to him, and redeem us, but we must do our part. We can appropriate his blessings when we seek him; cry out to him; trust him; fear him; reverence him; refrain from lying; turn from evil, do good and seek peace; are brokenhearted; and serve him. (NLT)

Psalm 34:1-8 – I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are discouraged take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me, freeing me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. I cried out to the Lord in my suffering, and he heard me.   He set me free from all my fears. For the angel of the Lord guards all who fear him, and he rescues them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who trust in him!

Quoted verse: This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble. – Psalm 34:6 (NRSV)

“Story” – Dorothy O’Neill (South Australia, Australia) titled her story “PERFECT TRUST;” here is a portion of Dorothy’s story:

“My five-year-old daughter was eager to help me bake . . . I briefly turned away to retrieve the egg beater from the drawer and crash! The whole box of eggs splattered on the kitchen floor. I couldn’t hide my dismay. Money was short for us, and now we had no eggs. My daughter looked up at me unperturbed. ‘Don’t worry, Mummy,’ she said, ‘Daddy can mend them.’

“My little girl’s faith in her beloved father was the perfect reminder to me of the faith we can have in our heavenly Father’s ability to repair the damage in our lives. While my daughter’s father could not put broken eggs back together, nothing is impossible for our heavenly Father, who cares for us and waits only to be asked for help. Even if we think our lives are broken beyond repair, our Father can mend them when we entrust our struggles to him.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – When I can’t see a way forward, God can.

Prayer: Loving Father, we bring to you what is broken in our lives. We place the pieces in your loving hands as we ask for and accept your help. Amen.
