Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
Doing God’s will sometimes means waiting patiently. While we wait, we can love Him, serve others, tell others about Him.
Waiting for God to help us is not easy, but David received four benefits from waiting: God (1) lifted him out of his despair, (2) set his feet on solid ground, (3) steadied him as he walked, and (4) put a new song of praise in his mouth. Often blessings cannot be received unless we go through the trial of waiting. (NLT)
Psalm 40:1-3 – I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be astounded. They will put their trust in the Lord.
Quoted verse: Jesus said, “I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged! I have conquered the world.” — John 16:33 (CEB)
“Story” – Randy Jennings (Virginia, USA) titled his story “FROM WORRY TO JOY;” here is a portion of Randy’s story:
“During my afternoon walks, I enjoy listening to the birds sing, watching the trees sway . . . However, on this afternoon, the rain poured and my eyes were focused downward on the road. I had never noticed the cracks in the road or the occasional pothole. I felt I needed to watch my every step for fear of stumbling. Then my neighbor Mark drove up and rolled down his window. With just a few words from my neighbor, I no longer thought about the obstacles in my path. Instead, my thoughts were of Mark’s kindness.
“Sometimes stress and the troubles of life are like the rain, keeping us from looking up and seeing God’s blessings. Instead we only focus on our problems.
“Maybe today we can share a kind word and help someone look up from their difficulties to find joy and peace in God.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – When I share a kind word, I show the love of Christ.
Prayer: Dear God, when we are burdened with the stress of this world, help us to realize that you are the great Comforter. Amen.
