Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

By referring to these days as evil, Paul was communicating his sense of urgency because of evil’s pervasiveness. We need the same sense of urgency because our days are also difficult. We must keep our standards high, act wisely, do good whenever we can. (NLT)

Ephesians 5:15-17 – So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do.

Quoted verse: Teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. – Psalm 90:12 (NRSV)

“Story” – William Avery Pike, Jr. (Virginia, USA) titled his story “TIME REMAINING;” here is a portion of William’s story:

“In my youth, summer seemed to last forever. As I push past the age of 65, that’s not the case anymore. I’m particularly aware of the way time passes each time I ride a stationary bicycle at my local gym. . . . I’m focused on two categories: time elapsed and time remaining.

“Today’s reading from Ephesians reminds me to live wisely, ‘making the most of the time’(v. 16). When I think about the time elapsed in my life, I know I haven’t been very wise. Perhaps that is why I want to focus my reaming time in life on the things God needs me to do in the future.

“How do I accomplish this? For starters, I must fully comprehend that time is a blink in the whirlwind of life. God will send me opportunities. But if I make excuses, then I will miss the chance to help people in need. Time is ticking. From now on, instead of hesitating, I will listen to God and get busy.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I will make the most of the time God has given me.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to be wise in using our time for your good. Amen.
