Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[Power of faith.] Today’s title is from the story in The Upper Room, see below.

Psalm 18:1-6 – I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, for he saves me from my enemies.

The ropes of death surrounded me; the floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death itself stared me in the face. But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears.

Quoted verse: The psalmist wrote, “In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” — Psalm 18:6 (NIV)

“Story” – Ruth R. Mancilla Casalez (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) titled her story “THE POWER OF FAITH;” here is Ruth’s story:

“I was born into a Christian home and from a young age participated in the children’s activities in my church. As an adult, I worked as a children’s teacher and later as a counselor for teens. Still, I never imagined the magnitude of the impact that God would have on my life.

“It started one afternoon when my world collapsed. The doctor informed me that I had a large cyst on an ovary and needed surgery. The pains were becoming more and more intense and unbearable, my fear and anguish increasing daily. Every day I pleaded with God to have mercy on me and to remove that cyst from my body.

“On the day of the next medical examination, I prayed, asking God for strength and courage to face and accept the final result. While I was on the stretcher, I observed the face of the doctor looking for the cyst.   Puzzled, he said in a low voice, ‘I cannot find anything; the cyst is not there.’ When I heard that, my heart filled with joy. The beats of my heart were intense. I had no doubt that the power of God had manifested itself. I left the hospital glorifying God for the results. I am sure that we can trust in God because God is able to do all things.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – When I am attuned to God’s power, I am amazed at what God can do.

Prayer: Almighty God, thank you for listening to our prayers and sustaining us. Help us to accept the outcome of our struggles, knowing you are always with us. Amen.
