Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
[Jesus said] “. . . you are far more valuable to him than they are.” — Matthew 6:26 (NLT)
Matthew 6:25-33 – [Jesus said] “So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn’t life consist of more than food and clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are. Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not.
“And why worry about your clothes? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you? You have so little faith!
“So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. . . .”
Quoted verse: God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (NIV)
“Story” – David Serdyukov (Moscow, Russia) titled his story “EVEN ME;” here is a portion of David’s story:
“I’ve always had to work really hard in school. I make many mistakes, and my dad has to point them out and explain them to me. I was so discouraged by my struggles with school that I began to feel that I didn’t deserve any of the good things in my life.
“When I expressed my feelings of unworthiness, my dad explained that God may give us challenging tasks but also will help us through them. . . . Then Dad read John 3:16 to remind me how much God loves me.
“Even when I mess up, God still gives me oxygen, sunshine, food, and many good things just because God loves each of us so very much. Now I do my work with more enthusiasm because I know that even when I make mistakes, God is with me and still loves me.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – I don’t have to do anything to earn God’s love.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for caring for us – even when we feel we don’t deserve it. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
