Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)
Today’s scripture reading:
. . . I have put my hope in his word. – Psalm 130:5 (NLT)
Psalm 130:5-8 – I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love and an overflowing supply of salvation. He himself will free Israel from every kind of sin.
Quoted verse: I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning. – Psalm 130:6 (NIV)
“Story” – Kevin L. Thomas (Alabama, USA) titled his story “ANTICIPATION;” here is a portion of Kevin’s story:
“Over the course of 28 years of ministry, I’ve sat with hundreds of families in dozens of hospital waiting rooms. It’s an agonizing time filled with sorrow, loneliness, and fear. Virtually every family tells me that waiting is the worst part. No one seems to enjoy this kind of sad, passive waiting.
“But another kind of waiting moves us to put up trees, light candles, and hang wreaths. This anticipation brings joy. It thrills our souls. We look forward to it all year long – waiting for the appearance of the Christ child. As we mark each day off the calendar, the excitement grows, moving us to acts of love and kindness toward friends and strangers alike. We wait, full of hope, because we know that good news is coming to a manger and into our hearts. . . .
“That sleepy guard on the last watch of the night stands in anticipation . . . In a similar way, we wait this month with excitement for the appearance of the Son who will set us free.”
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – This Advent, I will wait in eager anticipation for the Lord.
Prayer: Loving God, fill our lives with hope that moves us to acts of kindness. Amen.
Prayer Focus: FAMILIES WITH SICK LOVED ONES
