Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[Are you lonely or thirsty for something lasting in your life?]

Hiding from his enemies in the barren wilderness of Judah, David was intensely lonely. He longed for a friend he could trust to ease his loneliness. No wonder he cried out, “O God . . . my soul thirsts for you . . . in this parched and weary land.” If you are lonely or thirsty for something lasting in your life, remember David’s prayer. God alone can satisfy our deepest longings! (NLT)

Psalm 63:1-8 – O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better to me than life itself; how I praise you! I will honor you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest of foods. I will praise you with songs of joy.

I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. I think how much you have helped me; I sing for joy in the shadow of your protecting wings. I follow close behind you; your strong right hand holds me securely.

Quoted verse: God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please God. – Ecclesiastes 2:26 (CEB)

“Story” – Stacey Phillips (Virginia, USA) titled her story “GOD WAITS;” here is a portion of Stacey’s story:

“During prayer time at our church one morning, our pastor had us hold hands with those beside us. Cole, my very energetic two-year- old son, was playing with his toy construction vehicle when I reached out my hand to hold his. . . . A short while later . . . He took the toy, then grasped my hand for a while.

“During all of this, I started thinking how God always keeps a hand out waiting for us, even when we’re happily going on with our life ignoring God or not putting God first. Despite this, when we go to God with our life that has broken into pieces, God puts us back together. We then have a choice to thank God and to take hold of our Creator’s hand, or to go back to ignoring God. Either way, God waits for us. Praise be to God for God’s ever-beckoning hand and unconditional love.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – God is always waiting, eager to mend us.

Prayer: Dear God, forgive us for the times we ignore you. Thank you for always being there to put us back together and to provide true contentment and meaning for our lives. Amen.
