Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

Can you hide a city that is sitting on top of a mountain? Its light at night can be seen for miles. If we live for Christ, we will glow like lights, showing others what Christ is like. We hide our light by (1) being quiet when we should speak, (2) going along with the crowd, (3) denying the light, (4) letting sin dim our light, (5) not explaining our light to others, or (6) ignoring the needs of others. Be a beacon of truth—don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world. (NLT)

Matthew 5:13-16 – [Jesus said] “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Quoted verse: Let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16 (CEB)

“Story” – Patrick Klingaman (Maine, USA) titled his story “GO AND GLOW;” here is a portion of Patrick’s story:

“When I think about being a light to the world, I remember one of my favorite childhood toys: a glow-in-the-dark, synthetic-rubber super ball. . . .

“I think my faith journey often resembles that little ball. On days when I am able to focus on God and God’s presence – through prayer, time reading the Bible, acts of service – I can almost feel a glow from within. And like the ball, the brightness of my shining is dependent on regular contact with a greater source of light.

“Jesus has called us to be his light to the world. I believe those who shine are meant to move out into the night. Just as objects that glow are most useful in the dark, so our simple loving presence in a troubled world has great value.

“Still, we all face days when we don’t feel all that shiny and bright. . . . When we step out to help others, even our faintest glow can serve as a beacon of God’s love.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – How can God use me to light the world?

Prayer: Dear God, fill us with your light and love. Guide us into opportunities today and every day where we can brighten the lives of others. Amen.

Prayer Focus: FOR WAYS MY LIFE CAN SHINE MORE BRIGHTLY
