Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[We need to know about His love, mercy, grace.]

The apostle Paul referred to this psalm when he explained that everyone knows about God because nature proclaims God’s existence and power. This does not cancel the need for missions because the message of God’s salvation found in his Word, the Bible, must still be told to the ends of the earth. While nature points to the existence of God, the Bible tells us about God’s plan of salvation. God’s people must explain to others how they can have a relationship with God. Although most people believe in a Creator because of the evidence of nature around them, they need to know about his love, mercy, and grace. What are you doing to take God’s message to the world? (NLT)

Psalm 19:1-6 – The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak, night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.

God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.

Quoted verse: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. –Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

“Story” – Maire Simm’s (Tallinnn, Estonia) story is titled “HEAVENLY VIEW;” here is a portion of Maire’s story:

“The old birch tree that used to grow in front of my bedroom window had a huge crown of branches and leaves. . . . Recently an accident caused my birch tree to die. First I was sad because the view of the outside from my window looked so empty and desolate. Then I noticed while lying in my bed that for the first time I was able to see the sky from my window. Now I enjoy the many colors of the sky . . . During my quiet time with God, I have a view of the heavens that fills my heart with joy.

“However, at times our Nordic sky is low and gray, making it difficult to see the sun and the night’s stars. Similarly, in our spiritual lives, our mistakes and difficulties can sometimes distract us from fellowship with God, even though God’s mercy never changes. Rather than focusing on what distracts us, we can decide to focus on our relationship with God.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – What distracts me from spending time with God?

Prayer: Dear Lord, give us the wisdom to focus on your constant presence rather than our difficulties. Amen.
