Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.  (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[We can still be thankful for His presence.]

Have you ever grown tired of praying for something or someone?  Paul said that believers should never stop praying.  A Christian’s persistence is an expression of faith that God answers prayer.  Faith shouldn’t die if the answers come slowly, for the delay may be God’s way of working his will.  When you feel tired of praying know that God is present, always listening, always answering—in ways that he knows are best.

Paul was not teaching that we should thank God for everything that happens to us, but in everything.   But [during our trials], we can still be thankful for God’s presence and for the good that he will accomplish through the distress.  (NLT)

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18 – Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are leaders in the Lord’s work.  They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.  Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work.  And live peacefully with each other.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy.  Encourage those who are timid.  Take tender care of those who are weak.  Be patient with everyone.

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Always be joyful.  Never stop praying.  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Quoted verse: Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  –1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

“Story” – Meliana Santoso’s (East Java, Indonesia) story is titled “ALWAYS GRATEFUL;” here is a portion of Meliana’s story:

“One day during our fellowship meeting, our leader spoke about gratitude.  . . . he challenged us not to complain about anything for 30 days and to find at least one thing that we could be grateful for each day and write it down.

“Our leader said, ‘Gratitude is a life-changing attitude.  When we open our eyes to God’s blessings every day, we will find many things for which we can be grateful.’  When I thought about my blessings, I found many things that I could be grateful for – the food I eat every day, my healthy body, my happy family, the birds that sing each morning, answered prayers, God’s protection, and much more.

“As we read in the scripture quoted above, God wants us to be grateful in all things.  Being grateful is a choice.  Choosing to be grateful in every situation can keep our hearts filled with joy even during difficult times.  Having a grateful heart opens us up to God’s blessings in our lives.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Gratitude in all things can bring me abundant joy.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your abundant blessings.  Help us to give thanks for your grace and goodness in our lives.  Amen.
