Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.  (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in our Father, trust in his Son.]

As the way, Jesus is our path to the Father.  As the truth, he is the reality of all God’s promises.  As the life, he joins his divine life to ours, both now and eternally.  Jesus is, in truth, the only living way to the Father.  (NLT)

John 14:1-6 – [Jesus said] “Don’t let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.”

“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said.  “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through me.  . . .”

Quoted verse: Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”  –John 14:1-2 (NIV)

“Story” – Gary Dowdy (Tennessee, USA) titled his story “SADNESS AND LOVE;” here is Gary’s story:

“When Paulette, my wife of 50 years, died suddenly of a heart attack, I was not prepared for the devastation her loss would cause in my life.  But I turned to my faith to sustain me through the grief and sorrow.

“Although I have missed Paulette so much, I have learned that Jesus suffers with us and the Holy Spirit provides us comfort.  During those times when I cry out in pain and hurt, Jesus shields me and protects me from dwelling on the bad.  Wisdom has been passed on to me through this loss as I learn a new normal for a life without Paulette.

“Christ’s death on the cross is the beginning of the resurrection story.  We can rejoice knowing that our loved ones are with God in heaven.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – “You, Lord, are a shield around me” (Ps. 3:3).

Prayer: Compassionate God, give us strength to endure the pain over the loss of our loved ones and to find peace in knowing that they are in their heavenly home.  Amen.

Prayer Focus: GRATITUDE FOR GOD’S ETERNAL LOVE
