Dear Lord, open our hearts and our minds to the power of Your Word, which as we read, we may know, understand, and obey Your Word for us today.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.  (Author unknown)

Today’s scripture reading:

[All we can do to show our love for Him and others.]

Jesus said that if we truly love God and our neighbor, we will naturally keep the commandments.  This is looking at God’s law positively.  Rather than worrying about all we should not do, we should concentrate on all we can do to show our love for God and others.  (NLT)

Matthew 22:34-40 – But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again.  One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A Second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Quoted verse: Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  –Matthew 6:33 (NRSV)

“Story” – Abhilasha Morris Paul (Uttar Pradesh, India) titled her story “PRIORITIES;” here is a portion of Abhilasha’s story:

“It can be easy to prioritize many things over God: our families, jobs, studies, sports, or music.  When I was a teenager, I gave importance to things . . .  But when I came to know my Lord Jesus, he reminded me: ‘Abhilasha, you are mine.   You should give me the first place in your life.  When you seek me and my kingdom, you will lack nothing.’  Now that I have my priorities in order, I have found this to be true.

“God wants to be our priority.  Jesus said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

“For five years, I taught in a non-Christian school.  While I was there, God helped me through many situations.  I am now teaching in a Christian mission school where I find it easier to prioritize my relationship with God, and I am able to know God more deeply and glorify God’s name.  God has provided for me in each stage of my life.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY – Today I will make time with God my top priority.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to seek you and your kingdom above all.  May we make you the center of our lives.  Amen.
